Definition:
Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) is a revolutionary encryption technique that allows computations to be performed directly on encrypted data without ever decrypting it. The result, when decrypted, matches the result of the same computation performed on the original plaintext data. In other words: you can process data you can’t read, and get the right answer.
Think about what that enables: a cloud server can run analytics on your medical records, calculate your taxes, or process your financial transactions — without ever seeing your raw data. The server works on ciphertext, produces an encrypted result, and only the person with the decryption key can see the actual output.

The “Fully” in FHE means it supports both addition AND multiplication on encrypted data — which means it can theoretically compute ANY function (since any computation can be built from these two operations). Earlier versions of homomorphic encryption were “partially” or “somewhat” homomorphic (could only do addition OR multiplication, or only a limited number of operations). FHE removes those limits.
Example:
APPLICATION 1: Privacy-Preserving Medical Diagnosis 🏥
Scenario: A hospital wants to use a cloud AI service to analyze
patient medical records for early cancer detection.
